Got three new songs that I've been listening to a lot.
#3 Owl City feat. Carly Rae Jepsen - "Good Time"
Owl City a.k.a. Adam Young is trying to recover from the disaster of All Things Bright and Beautiful. His follow-up to the insanely successful Ocean Eyes sold only 143,000 copies in the United States. Many blamed the message shift, but I think it's because it didn't sound like The Postal Service. That's what made Ocean Eyes so great. People needed Owl City to fill the void left by Postal Service, and Adam sounded just like Ben Gibbard. That changed and continues to be different with Owl City's fourth studio album, The Midsummer Station. I like it more than his previous record, but it's still missing a lot. "Good Time" is the first single off of the new LP and it features the super-popular-right-now Carly Rae Jepsen. It's a nice, fun song that I wish I had heard at the beginning of summer.
#2 Imagine Dragons - "Tiptoe"
Yep. Another Imagine Dragons song. I've had a good amount of time with their new record, Night Visions, and it is one of my favorite albums of the year. Very creative and catchy. Glee has already done one of their songs, and the band has performed live on The Tonight Show and Jimmy Kimmel Live. "Tiptoe" is the second track on their album and it gets stuck in my head almost everyday. I love the cool '80s sounding intro and the chorus is super fun to sing. If you've been digging my suggestions of them prior to this, you'll enjoy this song, too.
#1 No Doubt - "Push and Shove"
When No Doubt went on hiatus, I was a little sad. Not quite as sad as when Blink-182 broke up, but fairly close. I loved watching them evolve from Orange County ska band to punk-rockers to pop-rock/synthpop collaborative whatever. Nothing by them will ever be as good as Tragic Kingdom in my book, but I enjoy most, if not, all of their material. When I first heard that they were coming back with a new album, I got really pumped up. I got a copy of Push and Shove and listened to it a few times. It's fairly good. They still have the post-Tragic Kingdom sound, which I still like, but not as much. "Push and Shove" is the title track. I don't particularly like the whole reggae thing going on, but that chorus... oh man, that chorus! I dig it. I dig it a lot. There are other good songs on the album, like "Easy" and "Sparkle," but I'm not sure if those would make my list. "Easy" has an incredible intro for the first 40-seconds that I adore, though.
What have you been listening to lately?
