Got three new songs that I've been listening to a lot.
#3 Imagine Dragons - "Amsterdam"
This will likely be the last Imagine Dragons song that makes one of my top three songs list this year. Clearly, Night Visions is going to be one of my favorites albums of 2012. It's just such a solid rock album and I haven't heard anything else like it this year. "Amsterdam" is the #6 track on their record and I love it. The intro is probably my favorite part. The guitar line is so good. I love the chorus, too. I scream it out when I'm driving in my car. And yes, I always sing like nobody's listening.
#2 Grizzly Bear - "Yet Again"
I feel like we've come full circle with these lists with Grizzly Bear on it. They appeared on my very first top songs post in March of 2010 with their hit single "Two Weeks." Nothing they do will probably ever be as good as that song, but that doesn't mean their new album is anything short of amazing. Shields was released in mid-September, so I've had a good amount of time with the album. I pretty much like the entire thing except for maybe one or two tracks. Overall, it's a better album than Veckatimest, and I believe many critics agree. "Yet Again" is the first single off of their album, but it was my favorite before I found that out. You're going to see them again on this list, so stay tuned.
#1 Calvin Harris feat. Florence Welch - "Sweet Nothing"
Did you know that Florence Welch is younger than me!? Because I didn't until just now! What the heck!?!? Anyway, Ms. Welch from London indie rock band Florence and the Machine is featured in Calvin Harris' song "Sweet Nothing" and it is oh so good. Harris' voice in his other single "Feels So Good" was not so great, so having him add Welch in this song is awesome. This song debuted at the number-one spot on the United Kingdom music charts, marking Harris' first number-one single in the UK since his 2009 single, "I'm Not Alone." If all of Calvin Harris' songs on his soon to be released album, 18 Months, sound like this, I will be a very happy man. That record will be out this Friday.
What have you been listening to lately?
