Foto Phriday - 11/2/12

This is my eighty-fifth Foto Phriday post. The pictures today are from Issaquah and Halloween events. Full set with all 39 photos can be viewed here.

Two Saturdays ago, Bethany had a wedding to attend, so it was time for a father-daughter day. I decided to take Juliana to Boehms Candies in Issaquah, WA.

Boehms is one of the older chocolate/candy places in the area. Julius Boehm was the founder who was born in Vienna, Austria, but fled to Switzerland in 1939 to escape the Hitler tyranny.

He came to the Pacific Northwest in 1941, and opened his first candy shop in Seattle two years later. In 1956, Julius moved Boehms Candies to the Issaquah foothills due to the green landscape and mountains that reminded him of his homeland.

Boehms does a tour of their factory, but you have to reserve spots in advance. You can do a self-guided window tour though and peek inside.

After visiting the candy store, Julie and I had lunch across the street at Triple XXX Rootbeer Drive-in. They had this old Kenworth bus parked out front.

Inside was very busy and had that oldschool drive-in diner feel to it. Julie was entertained the whole time just checking everything out.

I had a frosted mug of their root beer and it was quite tasty.

Here is Julie wondering what the heck that 8-track player is.

I think that one of the benefits of having your kids separated a little more in age is that Julie "gets it." Like, she knows what being a big sister means, which translates to her loving Coral. She loves to match with her in clothes and pajamas. If she were younger, I bet she wouldn't give a damn.

The Federal Way Community Center held a Halloween party on Saturday night for kids.

It was almost exactly like the Halloween event we went to last year with Jason, Molly, and James, except this was way more crowded. That made it less fun for Joyce and I. Julie says she still had a good time, though.

I'm personally not a fan of the whole kids Halloween event trend going on in all of the cities. Would much rather just take Julie trick-or-treating and that's it.

We invited some friends and family to a movie night at our house on Sunday. We watched my favorite Halloween movie, The Nightmare Before Christmas. Jason, Molly, James, and Logan were some of the attendees, so we took another chance to snap a few cute shots of Coral and Logan together.

Coral was a bag of popcorn for her first Halloween. Bethany and her mom made this cute felt cover for the baby carrier. Bethany dressed up like a movie theatre concession stand worker.

Yours truly dressed up as Clark Kent halfway transforming into Superman. It worked out quite well.

We went to Norma and Russ' again this year so that Julie could trick-or-treat with Hannah and Emma. This is the first year all three of them ran from house to house. To see more pictures from Halloween and our little trip to Issaquah, view the full set.
